INTRODUCING... 3rdfloor themed issues!

yes that's right, we've taken the plunge. but not in a lame way, we swear. there willnever be a cover announcing our *christmas extravaganza* issue or some such filth. no, we hereby commit to employing interesting and engaging themes or nothemes at all! as always, we are open to suggestions for any theme ideas fitting the aforementioned criteria.

Issue #5 Theme:
"d/re:composing habitat"

Only the delusional deny that human beings have systematically detached ourselves from "nature." We exist in a world of carefully delineated parks, cellophane-sealed food, and a preference for concrete-encrusted strip malls to "undeveloped" land. Un-chemically treated produce, locally grown food, access to "the great outdoors." All of this has a price, and all-too-often only the wealthy, the (cisgendered) male, and the white can afford to pay it. If few have a real relationship with "the land," no one protests its disappearance. Or will we?

Our next issue features work that addresses this decomposition of "nature," this cordoning of dirt, rock, sand. We welcome your own definition of what constitutes "nature," if anything. What are you creating that asks questions instead of answering them? That proposes alternatives instead of reacting to what we know is happening?

We welcome work of all mediums that address this theme including but not limited to: performance, video, animation, printmaking, installation, photography, street art, mail art, and text art.

DUE DATE FOR ISSUE #5 IS JUNE 15th ! !

this is your artspace. we want you very literally to feel as though each page of the mag is the wall of a gallery, to do with as you please. we welcome all artistic work that defies or mixes genres. your work will appear alone on one print page, surrounded by the creative works of other artists. *there are no reviews, interviews, or journalistic articles anywhere in 3rdfloor.* the mag is distributed solely through independent retailers, so don't worry, your work won't be tainted by the sticky, corporate-scented fingers of books-a-gazillion shoppers.

work that does not conform to the mag's print format will be
considered for upload on our website, and/or appear in our annual
dvd supplement. this may seem obvious, but it bears reiteration...
WE PRINT ONLY ORIGINAL, UNPUBLISHED MATERIAL.

work that is incapable of appearing in other publications or artspaces because of its radical aesthetics/content is the only appropriate work for 3rdfloor. if you feel that your work cannot be published anywhere, we are ecstatic about receiving your submission. journalism, essays, and memoirs are more appropriate for other media. we will be happy to refer you to them.
